For cancer patients with concomitant opportunistic infections, F-2-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) may not able to clearly distinguish benign lesions from malignant. Herein, we report a case that was falsely upstaged as lung metastases by FDG PET. A pre-operative CT-guided biopsy was performed, which identified the patient as suffering from breast cancer with concomitant pulmonary tuberculosis.

Disseminated thoracoabdominal splenosis mimicking metastatic disease: A case of colorectal cancer

Here, we describe a patient with a history of colorectal cancer in whom 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ([18F]FDG PET/CT) was performed for the evaluation of response to therapy. [18F]FDG PET/CT showed a small residual disease in the rectum. In addition, multiple metabolically inactive soft tissue densities were d...

2-[18f]-Fluoro–2-deoxy-d-glucose positron emission tomography in the evaluation of breast lesions and axillary involvement: a comparison with mammography and histopathological diagnosis

Aim: The objective of this prospective study was to evaluate the potential role of 2-[18f]-fluoro–2-deoxy-d-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) in the differentiation of malignant and benign breast masses and the evaluation of axillary lymph node involvement. The secondary objective of this study was to assess the value of FDG PET in the initial staging of patients with breast cancer.

Positron emission tomography/computed tomography images of pulmonary and spinal tuberculosis.

A 38-year old man presented to the outpatient clinic with nonproductive cough and back pain. Positron emission tomography/ computed tomography images (Fig. 1) showed a pulmonary lesion in the right inferior lobe with 2-[18F] fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (F-FDG) uptake and destructive bone lesions with intense FDG activity in T5 to T9 vertebrae. The diagnosis of tuberculosis was confirmed by broncho...

Diagnostic role and limitations of 2-deoxy-2-(F-18) fluoro- D-Glucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) in screening of synchronous cancer of other organs in patients with head and neck cancers

Patients with Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) often develop synchronous primary cancers. It is important to detect synchronous cancer in HNSCC patients, because it influences treatment selection of primary cancer. The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic role and limitations of pre-treatment 2-deoxy-2(F-18) Fluoro-D-Glucose Positron Emission Tomography (FDG-PET) in pati...

Therapeutic impact of 2-[fluorine-18]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography in the pre- and postoperative staging of patients with clinically intermediate or high-risk breast cancer.

BACKGROUND Positron emission tomography with 2-[fluorine-18]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG-PET) is an accurate imaging modality for the staging of breast cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the potential therapeutic impact of pre- and postoperative FDG-PET in patients with clinically intermediate or high-risk breast cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS One hundred and fourteen patients with...
